OnWednesday, May 21, 2025, the 16th Yanhe Economic and Management Forumof Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) was held. Withthe theme "Why Did I Reject Your Paper - An Editor’sView", this lecture invited Professor Brian Lucey, a financeprofessor from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and was hosted by LiBin, Dean of the School of Economics and Management.
Atthe beginning of the lecture, Dean Li Bin introduced Professor BrianLucey’s academic achievements and editorial experience. As theeditor-in-chief of a top international journal, Professor Lucey,drawing on his extensive experience in manuscript review and editing,systematically summarized the key factors to note in academic paperwriting from the perspective of a journal editor, and proposed apractical framework for building an "academic writing firewall".
ProfessorBrian Lucey pointed out in a concise manner that a paper must lay asolid foundation in 13 key dimensions, including research design,writing standards, and journal fit. He then conducted a detailedanalysis of each dimension.
Duringthe Q&A session, students interacted with Professor Lucey onissues such as the construction of innovative theories,interdisciplinary research, and paper submission, based on their ownresearch interests. In response to the students’ questions,Professor Brian Lucey provided in-depth answers and guidance withreference to relevant experience and specific cases.
Thislecture focused closely on the entire process of paper writing,submission, and review, and offered targeted suggestions withpractical cases, inspiring the teachers and students present toreflect on rigorous research paradigms. In the future, the School ofEconomics and Management of BUCT will continue to promote thenormalization of international academic exchanges and build a broaderacademic development platform for teachers and students.
