On the afternoon of September 8, the School of Economics and Management held the 2026 Undergraduate Freshmen Orientation Meeting. All members of the School leadership team, class tutors, student supervisor and all undergraduate freshmen of the Class of 2026 attended the event.
Dean Li Bin gave a comprehensive overview of the School’s development. He elaborated on key aspects including faculty development, research and innovation achievements, and talent-training models, helping freshmen gain a quick, thorough and in-depth understanding of the School’s educational heritage and developmental strengths. Meanwhile, Dean Li extended high expectations to all new students. He encouraged them to embrace the new starting point of university life, forge ahead with continuous endeavour, and write a youthworthy answer sheet to the times through youthful energy and hard-won progress.
Vice-Dean Chen Na delivered a systematic presentation on the School’s talent-training initiatives. She provided a detailed introduction to the School’s educational philosophy, training framework and the specialisation division scheme for broad-category majors, offering targeted guidance for freshmen to clarify their academic goals and map out their study trajectories. She pointed out that adhering to the educational philosophy of “All-round Development, Pursuit of Excellence”, the School of Economics and Management is firmly committed to fostering virtue through education. It strives to cultivate high-calibre interdisciplinary talents capable of shouldering important responsibilities, and supports students to grow into outstanding pillars contributing to national development and social progress.
Vice-Chair Tian Jun gave a detailed account of student administration and student-centred educational work. He encouraged freshmen to make the most of the high-quality platforms and abundant educational resources provided by the University and the School. Students are advised to take an active part in extra-curricular activities, hone their skills, build friendships and enrich their experience through diverse campus engagements so as to achieve all-round and high-quality personal growth.
Subsequently, Feng Yuyao, representative of class tutors, extended warm greetings and a hearty welcome to the Class of 2026. Drawing on university study and campus life, she put forward several expectations for freshmen: lay a solid academic foundation and maintain sound physical and mental well-being; dare to step out of comfort zones, embrace trial-and-error and accumulate experience through attempts; learn to communicate and cooperate, and participate actively in collective activities. Ms Feng expressed her hope to accompany students in discovering their own growth paths, exploring and progressing alongside one another throughout their university years.
He Jiayu, representative of former students, shared earnest advice for incoming freshmen. She urged them to shape their youth through hard work, pursue holistic development, shoulder missions in serving society, forge ahead alongside the motherland, and stay true to their original aspiration through dedication. She wished new students to study diligently, think deeply and integrate knowledge with practice on campus, enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding university experience, and grow into new-era youth ready to undertake the great mission of national rejuvenation.
As the freshman representative, Bai Maoyuan shared his impressions upon joining Beijing University of Chemical Technology, demonstrating the uplifting spirit and positive outlook of the Class of 2026. He called on all fellow students to absorb knowledge extensively, broaden life experience and give full play to their youthful vitality on their academic journey, so that they may grow and advance side by side.
Gao Hongxia, Chair of the School, delivered the concluding remarks and set three expectations for freshmen. First, uphold self-discipline, adopt a serious attitude towards study, standardise words and deeds, develop sound study and living habits, and let self-discipline underpin personal growth. Second, engage proactively in practical activities, step out of comfort zones, broaden horizons, sharpen capabilities and accumulate experience through real-world practice. Third, maintain a progressive mindset, stay passionate and strive for excellence, sustain vitality and motivation, and continuously break new ground to realise personal potential in pursuit of studies.
This orientation meeting enabled the Class of 2026 to fully understand the School’s educational philosophy, training system and student services. Inspired by messages from faculty and senior students, freshmen are guided to set aspirations and draw up academic plans, laying a solid foundation for adapting swiftly to university life and pursuing personal development. It is expected that the Class of 2026 will stay passionate and persistent, study hard and explore boldly on the platform offered by the School of Economics and Management, compose their own youth chapters, and grow into responsible new-era youth committed to social obligations.
